Rockstar has not published GTA 6's file size. As of September 30 there is no install figure on the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store or the Rockstar Newswire. Keep at least 150 GB free — 200 GB to be safe — and expect the official number shortly before pre-load opens on November 12.
Everything more precise than that circulating today is an estimate, and one widely shared figure is fake.

What Red Dead Redemption 2 teaches
Confirmed, as history. Rockstar's last launch is the best guide to how this will play out, and it carries two lessons.

The number comes late. Rockstar published RDR2's sizes eight days before launch — one day before pre-load. Until then, fans were working from store placeholders.
Store placeholders are wrong. Before Rockstar's announcement, a Microsoft Store listing suggested a smaller Xbox One size; Rockstar's official figure replaced it. A number on a storefront weeks before launch is a placeholder, not a measurement.

Speculation, at best. A screenshot claiming a 677 GB listing did the rounds in September. No store listing shows any size for GTA 6, and no outlet has verified the image. Given how placeholder-driven these numbers were for RDR2, a precise-looking figure with no source should be treated as fake.
What the estimates say, and why we don't pick one
Speculation. Most estimates cluster between 150 and 200 GB, some adding a 30–50 GB day-one patch on top. They extrapolate from RDR2 and from Leonida's scale — about twice the size of GTA V's map, per Rockstar in Game Informer's cover story.
That reasoning is plausible but loose. Install size does not scale with map area — compression, asset streaming and audio all move the number independently. We are not going to publish a figure Rockstar has not given.
How much space to keep free
- At least 150 GB, ideally 200 GB. That covers the estimate range plus a day-one patch.
- Leave headroom for the download itself. RDR2's digital PS4 install needed 50 GB of temporary space on top of the finished game.
- If you need room, move other games to USB. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games can be stored on a USB drive, but they must be played from the internal SSD, a compatible M.2 SSD on PS5, or an Xbox Storage Expansion Card.

When the official number will land
Speculation. Rockstar has not said. On RDR2's precedent — sizes published the day before pre-load — GTA 6's number would arrive around November 11. If it lands earlier, or on a store listing before Rockstar says it, this page will say so the same day.
