Confirmed vs. Rumored — The Definitive GTA 6 Feature Ledger
We split every claim circulating about Grand Theft Auto VI into three columns: officially confirmed, credibly leaked, and pure speculation. Here's the ledger as of May 2026.

Three weeks of trailer reaction, leaked frames, and earnings-call parsing have produced an enormous fog of "facts" about Grand Theft Auto VI. This is the cleanup. Every claim circulating right now lives in one of three columns: confirmed, credibly leaked, or speculation. We will keep this updated through launch.
Confirmed
Sourced to Rockstar's official site, the Newswire, Take-Two's earnings disclosures, or hands-on previews from credentialed outlets.
- Release date: May 26, 2026
- Setting: Leonida (state) — Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Grass Rivers everglades, Mount Kalaga National Park, plus an un-named western interior
- Protagonists: Lucia and Jason, dual-playable
- Platforms at launch: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S
- PC: "later release," date unconfirmed
- Editions: Standard, Special, Collector's
- Online: GTA Online VI ships post-launch, "later in 2026"
- Engine: RAGE evolution — the same internal engine track as RDR2 and GTA V, with new physics and rendering subsystems acknowledged publicly
- Soundtrack: original score plus licensed radio. Two of the station identities have been teased on the official site
- Performance modes: "fidelity" (30 fps) and "performance" (60 fps), per Trailer 2 closing card
Credibly leaked
Multiple sources, tracking, or strong inference from public material. We treat these as load-bearing but not yet citable as fact.
- 120+ hour main story — leaked from a previewer's notebook; the number is plausible based on RDR2 (~60h main, 100h+ for completion) but unconfirmed by Rockstar
- Stock-market mechanic returns — referenced in a single Bloomberg preview blurb; consistent with GTA V's BAWSAQ but unverified
- Wildlife systems modeled at the depth of RDR2 — Trailer 2 shows alligator wrestling as gameplay, the broader system is plausible but unconfirmed
- Property ownership beyond GTA V — leaked schematics suggest rentable, ownable, and operable real estate; Lucia's parole arc hints at it but no system is confirmed
- Real-time weather and tide systems — implied by the boardwalk density frame in Trailer 2 but not officially documented
Speculation
Things people on forums repeat as if they were facts but which have no source beyond rumor, animation tells, or wishful thinking.
- "Three protagonists" — based on a single second-trailer ambiguous cut. Rockstar has never said this. The frame can be read either way.
- "Cuba is in the map" — a pier sign in Trailer 1 reads "Pelican Crossing." That is not Cuba. There is no other on-screen evidence.
- "Crossplay at launch" — repeated on Reddit; Take-Two has not stated it on a single earnings call.
- "Free PS5-to-PC upgrade" — completely fabricated. Rockstar's historical pattern is paid PC release at full SRP.
- "Lucia is voiced by Aubrey Plaza" — a TikTok rumor. The voice actress credits will appear in launch-week press.
- "Mod support at launch" — vanishingly unlikely. RDR2 and GTA V both shipped without official mod support.
Things we are watching for in the next 21 days
The launch trailer — historically four days before release, so May 22 — typically introduces the supporting cast and confirms final platform details. The day-zero patch notes (24–48 hours pre- launch) are where photo mode, accessibility settings, and online- deferred features get disclosed for the first time. We will move every relevant row out of "speculation" and into "confirmed" the moment the documentation lands.
If you are arguing about a feature not on this list, you are arguing about something nobody has evidence for. Cite, or pass.
