Rockstar confirms things slowly and deliberately. But when it does confirm something, it holds. Here's the complete, verified ledger of everything Rockstar and Take-Two have officially stated about Grand Theft Auto VI — updated August 28, 2026.

Core Facts

Release date: November 19, 2026. Originally targeted at May 26, 2026; Rockstar delayed the title on November 6, 2025 to allow additional polish. Confirmed via Rockstar Games press release and Take-Two earnings call. 9:00 AM local time across regions. Reaffirmed on Take-Two's May 21, 2026 Q4 FY2026 earnings call, with an $8–8.2 billion FY2027 net-bookings forecast anchored to the date.

Setting: Leonida. Rockstar has described Leonida as "a fictional state inspired by Florida." The largest urban center is Vice City, rebuilt from scratch.

Two protagonists: Lucia and Jason. First announced in Rockstar's official Trailer 2 press release. The two characters are in a romantic and operational partnership. Both are playable in single-player. They share progression, resources, and story.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S. PC is not listed. Rockstar has acknowledged PC as a "later release" without committing to a date.

An Extended Look — aired August 27, 2026. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and reached Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. It runs roughly 27 minutes and Rockstar states it was captured in-game on a base PlayStation 5. Rockstar never numbered it "Trailer 3"; that name is the community's. Confirmed in the Extended Look (August 27, 2026):

• Main story: roughly 80 hours. A main-story figure; Rockstar has given no total-completion number.
• Map: about 3× the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's — the largest world Rockstar has built.
• More than 600,000 NPC animations, against roughly 55,000 in GTA V and about 300,000 in Red Dead Redemption 2.
• Six-star Wanted levels return (GTA V capped at five), on a rebuilt, evidence-based system: a crime must be witnessed by a civilian or trigger an alarm before police respond, officers remember your face, clothing and vehicle, and CCTV can identify you. Masks, a change of clothes, or a new hairstyle break the identification.
• Protagonist full names: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Their relationship is a variable players can build or neglect, and it feeds into certain story moments.
• Lifestyle systems: eating, drinking and exercising affect physical condition. Shown activities include gyms, scuba diving, kayaking, mini-golf, pool, skydiving, shopping, a zoo, and in-game social media apps.
• Combat: slow-motion aiming returns, enemies have highlighted weak points, and limb shots can incapacitate rather than kill.

• Standard — $79.99 (base game)
• Ultimate — $99.99 (base game plus Wyman's project cars, a '95 Grotti Cheetah, exclusive weapons, Special Destinations, 50+ tattoos, and more)
• No Special tier and no physical Collector's edition. Physical copies contain a download code, not a disc.

Confirmed Gameplay Features

First-person perspective returns. Confirmed in the Trailer 2 press release and in outlet previews. First-person was a core GTA V mode and is back for GTA VI.

Third-person perspective also returns. Rockstar confirmed both perspectives across marketing materials. Players can switch between them.

Cooperative gameplay in single-player via two protagonists. Rockstar has described the Lucia/Jason system as "cooperative" in feel while remaining single-player. The characters swap roles dynamically in chase sequences shown in trailers.

Photo mode confirmed. Rockstar confirmed photo mode in a Newswire post ahead of Trailer 2. Expected at launch or via day-one patch.

Vehicle ownership and customization. Shown in Trailer 2 (parking sequences, vehicle swaps). Traditional GTA vehicle ownership and customization mechanics are implied.

Weapon customization. Rockstar has shown weapon customization in pre-release footage, consistent with GTA V's system.

Weaponized vehicles. Trailer 2 shows a vehicle-mounted turret sequence. The Insurgent (or equivalent) class of weaponized vehicle appears to be present.

New animal and environmental behavior systems. Bloomberg's hands-on preview described "more reactive NPCs and wildlife than any previous Rockstar game."

Confirmed Technical Facts

Dynamic weather system confirmed. Trailer 1 and 2 both show rain, humidity, and storm sequences. Rockstar has described Leonida's climate as "subtropical."

Highway and road system. Trailer 2 shows multi-lane highways and dense urban traffic. The open-world driving mechanics are central to GTA's identity.

Underwater areas. Rockstar confirmed in an official press release that "underwater exploration" is in the game. The Florida Keys inspired setting makes this natural.

NPC schedule and routine system. Bloomberg's preview described NPCs with visible daily routines, jobs, and movement patterns — a system that originated in GTA IV and was refined in RDR2.

Day/night cycle with live radio. Trailer 2 shows driving at night with radio. Rockstar has maintained live radio with licensed music throughout the GTA series.

Ray tracing. PlayStation 5 Pro marketing for GTA VI confirmed ray-traced reflections on the Pro hardware. Expected in Quality Mode on current-gen.

Confirmed Music & Soundtrack

34 confirmed songs — Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. Announced September 17, 2026 by Rockstar and Atlantic Records; releases November 19, 2026 alongside the game. Six singles are out: Yung Lean feat. Future & Metro Boomin, Travis Scott, CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso with PinkPantheress and Fred again.., Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro, and Keith Richards. The other 28 tracks are unannounced. The two trailer songs are NOT on that list. Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road" (Trailer 1) and The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together" (Trailer 2) were licensed for trailers. Neither has been confirmed for the game itself, and this ledger previously listed them as the confirmed soundtrack. Corrected September 21, 2026.

A dynamic score is confirmed to exist. Rockstar named it in the album announcement. No composer has been announced.

V-Rock is expected but NOT confirmed. Community frame-hunters claim V-Rock references in Trailer 2 wardrobe; those frames are unverified and Rockstar has not announced any station.

Update (August 20, 2026): a radio-station menu in the CyberLeek leak appears to list V-Rock and eMotion 98.3 among several stations. That is a much stronger class of evidence than wardrobe frames, and it moves V-Rock to leaked — but leaked material is not an official announcement, so it stays off this confirmed ledger until Rockstar names a station.

Confirmed Story Facts

Lucia's background: parolee. Trailer 1 opens on Lucia in a prison interview ("Why am I here? Bad luck, I guess"), and Trailer 2 shows her release. Lucia is on parole.

Jason's background: military or law enforcement implied. No official confirmation, but the Forbes profile (April 2026) described Jason as having "a past in organized tactical operations."

Shared Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic. Rockstar described Lucia and Jason as "partners" with a "romantic and operational" relationship in the official Trailer 2 press release.

Multiple heist missions. The word "heist" appears in the game's official marketing and both trailers show multi-stage criminal operations. At least three heist sequences are visible in Trailer 2.

Vice City is the main urban setting. The city that appeared in GTA: Vice City (2002) and GTA: Vice City Stories (2006) returns as Leonida's flagship metropolitan area.

Pre-Order Bonuses (Confirmed)

Every pre-order — any edition, digital or physical, placed before November 20, 2026 — includes the Vintage Vice City Pack (1980s outfits for Jason and Lucia) at launch. What Is NOT Confirmed

These are areas Rockstar has explicitly declined to address in official communications:

• Radio-station lineup — 34 album tracks are confirmed, but Rockstar has named no station. Station names leaked in August and remain leaked; the dial is still unannounced
• A new GTA Online — GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience (confirmed June 24, 2026) and no new GTA Online has been announced. It does, however, exist: Rockstar's September 2026 tribunal filing refers to an unreleased online format for a confidential project. Name, player count and launch window are all still unannounced.
